Automaker’s Ads — Pulled or Rotated?

Posted on September 28th, 2011 by Dealer in News

Ford Motor Company has recently pulled television ads that featured messages backing the fact that the automaker did not take the government bailout money, according to The Detroit News. The story, that ran in the opinion section, said Ford pulled the ad after people from the White House wondered if the copy was a direct jab at the government bailout of General Motors and Chrysler back in 2009. What are your thoughts?

A Ford spokesperson commented on this story with this message: “The story is that the ad ran its natural cycle – it’s part of a campaign that regularly swaps in new ads – and that it continues to be available online: http://www.youtube.com/ford#p/…. That column in the Detroit News contained some speculation (especially the line that reads “Well, not technically…”). We supported emergency government aid for our competitors in 2008 and 2009 and stand by the decisions we made.”

Definately…Ford has something to really be proud of ….Mulally for president…

  • Robernst

HELL YES they should have kept the ad.

  • macrosebud

    Facts are facts.

  • Rokoz99

The White House should not be putting pressure on Ford to change ad.

  • Bob Johnson

The thing is what if they didn’t get a loan before everything went hiring with the banks in 2009. Would they have to had needed a bailout as well?

    • Stom

      yes

And now Obama is tellling Ford what their advertising message can and can’t be???????????
When will the idocy stop?  2012

I’m a GM guy, and I think it was just good marketing-tell the White(?) House to get bit>

Ford did what they felt they had to do. The bigger problem is that the white house has no bussiness telling any company what they can and can’t advertise as long as it is not against the law. The fact that the goverment owns GM and had to bail out both GM and Chrysler is public record. It is in no way a violation to use that information in an advertisement. I wish Ford would have continued with their add so as to spark a public debate.

Ford has taken Govt money and a lot!!!!!!!   They have been funded for electric car research.  Now there is a discussion as to those research monies being taken from them to fund FEMA and how it will effect the jobs market if those funds are moved.

The White House pits business against business and class warfare with everything they do !  They are even today trying to tell Israel how to run their country. When are we going to wake up!!!!! I work with GM and I think Ford’s ad is admirable!

I’m still going to keep my “Built Ford Tough without your tax dollars” sticker on my car.  Come tell me to take it off.

  • Robert Ehrbar

Yes, it’s a definite plus for the company.

The ad was pulled because the “talent” in the ad also made some pretty anti-government videos on You tube! Not because of White House pressure. The ad was unscripted, but the guy is a little bit “different”.

Love the Mulally for president idea. Yes Ford should have kept the ad.

Ford SHOULD NOT back down.  The arrogant Thugs in government, from the top down, (who never ran a business in their life) do not want Ford to make the Government Motors look bad.  And speaking of thugs, how about the $42 million in bonus GM paid out after lying about paying the american public back IN FULL.  Don’t let them castrate you,  as you did it the right way and should be proud of it!

  • Steve Myers

Our customers seem to appreciate the fact that Ford didn’t take the bail out money.

Absolutely should have kept the ad. The bigger question is where is the media on this?

    • GMdealer

The media does not want to upset the “king” so they can continue to have access.

  • dvaughn

Why would the government be concerned with Ford telling the truth?

  • Dolphinsjd

Cant Make This Stuff Up. That’s all I got to say
